Rising into the Storm by William Phillips countersigned
Rising into the Storm by William Phillips is a limited edition lithograph with an edition of 250 prints and countersigned by the 5 remaining crew members of the Doolittle Raiders at the time of the signing. The image size is 24″ x 15.5″ high and overall paper size is 27″ b 23.5″ high. The artist has depicted the USS Hornet and the B-25 plane manned by Lt. Colonel “Jimmy” Doolittle taking off from the deck of the ship. The maneuver had only been done twice off the shore of Norfolk, VA several months earlier. Now the plane was fully laden with fuel, bombs and crew. Would they make it… but they did and the rest is history. The crew members of the B-25 planes, knew this was a one way trip but still flew their planes towards Japan and eventually over China, where some were captured by the Japanese after bailing out of their fuel less planes and others were able to land on airfields of friendly Chinese troops. The names of the crew members are listed on the print along with the signatures of the then remaining Doolittle Raiders.
